Ron Hancock JP  1939 - 2010

Ron Hancock JP

One of our valued Trustees, RON HANCOCK JP passed away on Tuesday 27 April 2010.

Ron was a retired dairy farmer who left school at 16 to work on his parent’s farm.   He retired in 2003 leaving the farming up to his son and daughter in law.

Always very active in community affairs Ron was elected onto the local Horsham Downs Hall and Community Committee.  He held all positions of responsibility at some stage over the next 50 years and had a major role in the building of the new community centre where his funeral will be on Tuesday 4 May.

Ron was appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1979 and awarded the New Zealand Commemorative Medal for community service in 1990.

It was through Rotary that Ron became a Trustee of the Hamilton Hydrotherapy Pool Charitable Trust and he was a very active member of being inducted into the 1993 inducted into the Hamilton Rotary Club and holding a number of director positions until becoming chairman in 2001. He was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International in 2003 with an additional sapphire pin added in 2008 and selected to the position of Assistant Governor for area 1 of District 9930 for the years of
2005/2007.

Ron will be sorely missed by everyone on the Hamilton Hydrotherapy Pool Charitable Trust where he has served since 2006.  He represented Rotary International on the Trust and quickly became the person that organized the manpower for distribution of publicity and the erection of information signage.   Ron put his all behind every one of the Trust’s fundraising efforts and was very committed to seeing this project completed. It is very sad that he has not lived to see it the Hydrotherapy Pool completed.
