Submissions to the Hamilton City Council

Thank you to all the groups and individuals who have made submissions to the Hamilton City Council’s LTCCP supporting the Trust’s call for the hydrotherapy pool to be built without delay. The oral submissions hearings for the pool were held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday 12 May.

Dr Alison Glover and Laurie Pilling presented the submission on behalf of the Trust.  There were also personal submissions made by Chris East, Contact Hydrotherapy Group member Lynn Falconer, Alison Glover and Clive Kingsley Smith.  Ron Hancock gave his oral submission on behalf of Hamilton Rotary Clubs.  The Trust urged the Council to meet the funding shortfall and get the pool underway.

Laurie and Alison told the Council the pool is desperately needed but need the Council’s approval to make it happen.  They told the Council the estimated project cost is $M2.2 and the plans and specifications are complete to tender stage.

The Trust has now raised $770,000 toward construction but Council was warned the availability of more than $500,000 in funding from several trusts and groups expired later this year increasing the urgency of construction. We asked the Council to use the money raised by the Trust to start construction this year and to then commit their funding in the 2010 financial year.

The outcome of the Council deliberations will be announced in mid June.
